Livestream Tonight: Important Context Joins Debunk The Funk With Dr. Wilson
The pair will react to the launch of a GOP-led congressional investigation into the U.S. pandemic response
Tonight at 9 PM Eastern, Important Context will be joining Dr. Dan Wilson, a molecular biologist who runs a YouTube channel, “Debunk the Funk With Dr. Wilson,” dedicated to tackling science-related misinformation. Dr. Wilson, who has previously done vaccine research, has been a friend of Important Context, providing quotes for stories.
On Wilson’s YouTube channel, we will go through and react to the February 28 hearing of the Congressional Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, which inaugurated a Republican-led inquiry into the federal government’s COVID-19 response. The investigation promises to conclude that the U.S. did too much to stop the spread of the virus.
To date, COVID has killed more than 1.2 million Americans. According to an estimate from the Imperial College of London, roughly 280,000 American children have lost a primary or secondary caregiver to the virus. A report from the Department of Health and Human Services from November found that as many as 23 million Americans were suffering long-term symptoms as of the date of publication. COVID infection has been linked to a host of ailments including cardiovascular problems and diabetes.
Predictably, the February 28 congressional hearing featured a number of familiar faces from Important Context’s reporting. The Republican members of the subcommittee brought in as experts Great Barrington Declaration co-authors Jay Bhattacharya and Martin Kulldorff and Johns Hopkins surgeon Marty Makary.
All three men are members of the so-called Norfolk Group, a supergroup of fringe scientists who have been vocal opponents of pandemic interventions. Organized by the Brownstone Institute, a right-wing dark money COVID misinformation hub, Norfolk Group released an 80-page blueprint for a congressional investigation into the pandemic response mere weeks before the February 28 hearing.
