Important Context is a project of the Accountability Journalism Institute (formerly the OptOut Media Foundation), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to investigative and independent reporting co-founded in 2020 by investigative journalist Walker Bragman and award-winning money-in-politics reporter Alex Kotch.

This newsletter, which mainly (but not exclusively) covers stories related to money-in-politics, mis/disinformation, and public health, is dedicated to exposing injustice and bad actors. The goal of Important Context is to help you decode the national conversation—to know who is saying what and understand why they are saying it.
